Griffin's notes: Personally, I don't believe in the Scholar's Theory. There is sufficient evidence of grading systems as early as the 1700s in the western hemisphere, it's true, but it was different from modern, letter-based grading systems. The first mention of this so-called "Scholar's Theory" appeared in a poorly sourced academic essay from the mid-1900s, and to challenge it now would mean overturning a century of Jardinian studies that reference it. Not every leading expert on Jardinian history will allow that, even if there are only a handful of us... Academia is a bit of a headache in that way. :/
