Griffin's notes: Interestingly, Gallantheae was one of the regions in Jardinia where relations between man and magic were tense--due to how much iron was sent to Gallanthae for weapons and how much fairies hate iron.
One of Ru's earlier drafts of this passage had the line "Too much iron and blood on their hands" as "Too much iron in their blood and too much blood on their hands." She insisted it was more poetic and representative of the Gallanthus family's legacy in Jardinia, but I pointed out that Europeans did not discover iron in blood until the 18th century, so I won that argument.
